The roots of the Mount Charles Band
can be traced back to 1779 when it was known as the
regiment of Cornish Volunteers. Following several
name changes it moved from Charles town to Mount Charles
in 1945 and became known as the Mount Charles Band.
The modern organisation is set up in
3 individual parts that all interlink to form the
whole:

The Junior
Band
Re launched again on 15th October 2007, this
is our starter group for anyone interested in playing a
brass or percussion instrument. The group rehearse on a
Tuesday between 5.15pm and 7.15pm, under the tutorage of
TBA. This fun group is designed to encourage social skills,
and musicianship so that the group can perform at concerts
and competitions after a period of training. All budding
members here will have the opportunity to move into the
Youth Band upon reaching the required standard.

The Youth
band
The Youth Band has a fine reputation throughout
the South West and Nationally where they have consistently
performed to the highest levels in concerts, festivals and
competitions. The band held the title of South West Champions
for 12 years consecutively, as well as being the West of England
and Cornish Champions on numerous occasions. The pinnacle
of their achievements being that they have three times been
crowned the National Youth Champions, and in 2006 also became
the inaugural British Open Youth Champions.
The band prides itself on team work, commitment
and an enthusiasm to learn together and individually, whilst
enjoying the social aspects of this great hobby.

you can see and hear the band throughout the county performing
at many concerts to full houses! (see here)
Rehearsals are on Monday and Thursday from 6.30pm
- 7.45pm

The Mount Charles Band are a Championship section
band in the West of England area, and recognised nationally
for their performances throughout the UK. The band are made
up of amateur musicians from all over Cornwall, including
members taught through the Mount Charles Youth programme,
some of whom are still playing members of the Youth Band.
The band perform at competitions all over the UK including
the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, The Lowry in Manchester,
The Sage in Gateshead and the Royal Albert Hall, London. The
band are delighted to have represented the West of England
at the Nationals Finals.
The band are also active in the concert arena,
and play regularly at the Subscription Rooms in Stroud and
The Minack Theatre, Porthcurno, as well as locally at The
Keay Theatre and other local venues.
The band have worked with many fine musical
directors (see here).
Rehearsals are on Mondays and Thursdays from
8pm - 10pm.
