The band set off from St Austell on Friday
19th very much looking forward to the weekend and our opportunity
to perform in the Royal Albert Hall for the third time on
the last 4 years.
The journey was extremely pleasant and passed
quickly in our 83 seat coach, full of players and supporters,
enjoying dvds provided by Peter (the band's repiano player
and self appointed coach entertainment Manager) and the
obligatory euchre tournament that helps to pass the time!
Arriving in our usual hotel, the band checked
in and started rehearsal at 6pm, in anticipation of the
contest the following day. Jo, on 2nd horn had unfortunately
a severely bruised lip, which meant she couldn't play at
all during the rehearsal, and she set off along with her
Dad to the nearest Doctor, to seek treatment and advice.
However after just over an hour in rehearsal the band were
prepared and had a really good run through of the piece
to set us off in good spirits.
Friday evening was spent locally in the many
restaurants, before returning to the hotel at a sensible
time, to get some well earned sleep.
The following morning the band were in rehearsal
from 8.30, welcoming the draw we got to play at number 9.
The band were able to have a listen to the first few bands,
before the final warm up, and onto the Albert Hall. Luckily
we had some contingency, which allowed us to get to the
changing rooms on time even though Aldene forget her contest
uniform!!
On stage, the band performed what can only
be described as a curate's egg. Some parts went very well,
but it is only fair to say that a lot didn't go to plan.
The band consequently were extremely disappointed with the
performance we gave. The results followed, which although
we feel were harsh, is what happens when you don't play
as well as you hope to.
So, the band reflected on what was a frustrating
day, and disappointing result by cheering the England Team
on in the Rugby final!!!
The journey home was a quiet one, with most
people sleeping but many already discussing the next concert
and contests that the band have.
The supporters were philosophical and the
band are now more determined to get back onto stage and
play to the ability we know the band has.
Disappointed yes, but deflated certainly not!
The band are now looking at there hectic Christmas
schedule as well as contests in Skegness, Yeovil and the
Regional Championships in March as well as a recording planned
for the early part of 2008.
Many thanks to all our supporters and equally
as many messages of both good luck and commiserations that
we received over the weekend.
It is very much appreciated by everyone associated
with the band.
Here's to 2008!!!
