| At this year's area the band were
competing to retain their title, which has no band has done
in 16 years!
Arriving into Torquay on a glorious sunny day, the band set
down at their hotel and awaited the draw, which this year
was being done by Peter Jackson, the band's rep player.
Unfortunately for Pete, he had a wisdom tooth removed 4 weeks
earlier and due to some complications, was unable to play
with the band at this contest. Luckily Liam Holt, was able
to help us out at late notice, which was very much appreciated.
Cheers Liam!
The news was the band were drawn 2, not ideal in any sense,
but the band felt ready to put on a good show, and it did
mean that we would not be waiting for long!
On stage, the band played well, and we all felt pleased with
the way it went on stage. The soloists played well, and the
general feeling was positive.
As the other bands took the stage, the comments from the
'unofficial judges' in the bar was that it would again be
a close run contest with many bands playing well.
Results time, and the hall was packed with bandsman hopeful
and eager to hear what the judges thought.
Mount Charles were awarded 4th this year, with the qualification
spots going to Flowers and Camborne. Well done to both bands!
So after some reflection on the way hone, the band were in
resilient mood, and have much to focus on with concerts across
the county and the next contest being the Grand Shield in
May!!
