The band recently returned to perform at the Yeovil Entertainment
contest, held annually at The Octagon Theatre. The band had
not been to this contest since 2004, and had recently travelled
to Skegness without reward, so it was a day that certainly
tested the nerves.
Playing number 10 from a 15 band field, the band repeated
their programme from Skegness, which again was very well received
by the audience.
Jon Small, played the trumpet solo Tanga and
was delighted to win the best soloist prize for his efforts.
The band were pleased with 3rd place awarded overall, and
congratulate Camborne and Polysteel on their 2nd and 1st prizes
respectively.
We would like to thank Megan and Duncan Alexander who returned
for this contest, and played a sterling part in the playing
on stage and also to Jo Rowe who helped the band on Repiano
and played as one of the 4 featured cornet soloists in The
Water is Wide.
Many thanks to you all for your help and support.
The band would also like to officially welcome Sarah Gray
into the band, who joins on cornet, who was also featured
in The Water is Wide.
The band are now preparing for the area contest on 9th March
as well as a BBC Radio 2 recording and three BBC Songs of
Praise broadcasts.
