Dances and Alleluias - William Relton

Opening was not ppp after the forte.  11 Not neat, 24 likewise and an occasional slip in pitching in the cornets. 55 clarity is lacking somewhat. 71 Nicely done Eb bass - 109 slightly loose, Euph cadenza a tad edgy. 125 Trombone is rather flat on Ds and Es, a pity as the player has a good command of the upper register. Euph and Sop duet does not settle down to a pitch. 158 Nice dynamics. 169 Well held tempo - entries well placed, some balance problems, a deal more percussion (xylo, tambourine) is required. 426 Stately baritone sol, and fine ensemble at 431. 440 Cornet solo starts very well, just a little fading off at the later stages. 456 Nice ensemble and a big bold finish.

Rather heavy for ppp! 11 rather uncomfortable - this doesn't quite settle. 24 Untidy, 30 tuning in cornets! 42 tasteful to open - dynamics quite good and I do hear the general detail. 51 lacks a bit of clarity - a little more care is needed with the actual detail. 70+ secure bass, Troms and Baritones fair 92 Effective 109 Duo works - Euph intonation is suspect in the solo. 123 Opens well. Trom - confident in the solo line but odd moments of intonation spoil. 133 Tasteful chording - Euph and Sop not always in tune in their duo.143 Nice lower quarter, Solo cornet secure, Flugel lacks a bit of flair. Build to Jublioso quite good. 158 Don't
get too wild! Allegro a bit untidy, Vivace links quite effective, dynamics also. Perc play their part. 245 Good Euph lines well supported by all. Lower lines lose a bit of impact. 295 opens well, then some uncomfortable moments ensue - better from 323. 331 nicely controlled, close is fair. 420 Nice sounding baritone and plays with confidence and musicality,. Ensemble from 427 not always together, 431 is controlled. Dim nicely done into 440. Pleasing solo cornet. 448 good balances here - solo line gets a bit of a struggle to close. 456 Pleasing ensemble sound and the build to 464 is good. Maestoso Bole playing 468 Don't let the sound get too hard. Close lacked a bit of impact for my taste.

A performance of some highs and lows, Thank you very much.

A good opening, but very safe and nearer to mp or more than ppp. Not all secure in 12 and untidy at 31. Matters recover well however. This all lacks in detail and clarity in the faster articulated passages. There are some very fine contributions around the stand but equally the ensemble is not as clinical as it might be. Good euph solo (but not without intonation issues on 4th line D) and ditto trombone. Bravo but D is very flat and under pitch. Baritone 150 into 151??? Good build into 156 and 158 is much more relaxed than all that has gone before. All is reasonably secure in the Vivace right through to 419. Baritone cadenza very musical but not without intonation issues in 422. Nice moments in 427 and beyond - the middle of the band is very sonorous here. Good control into 440 lento. Solo cornet plays very well until around 453 when he arrives a little early at 454 and has to dwell on the top D which leads to a later blemish.  Excellent build into 464 and a very good close from 468 to the end.

Overall,
some very good moments and fine contributions here but there were many blemishes and errors too and moments of apprehension and uncertainty.  Many thanks.
