Opening confident, A is sonorous (if a bit more than ‘f’). B a good rhythm. Not all the runs are convincing 3 before F, some omissions. G is a bit routine; H Euph should not surge onto the C but move towards the G in the next bar. I a good start, K some slips in pitching in upper cornets, nice climax at O. Nicely done sop, Stylish Euph but please restrain the bulges (cresc and dim) at P (bars 2,3 and 4). Delicate percussion touches 6 before R. Nice sounding bass spoils the tone a bit by overdoing the cresc and dim. 278 well held Sop! U, Xylo misses 3 before V. X a good start Z richly toned chorale and a very big ending. There was much to be complimented on, in the preparation and the performance but some subtleties and nuances escaped your attention.

Good opening section and good dynamic contrast, and good build to B. Neat sounds at B. Not quite tidy into F. F secure playing. I neat sounds and most of the detail can be heard but there is the odd blemish. Good build to O and good Euph and solo lines are well played. Not quite tidy into R. U begins to get untidy into V. Good final section.

Great start. A rather subdued. D basses good, fine attack. The quieter passages (trio and A) need some character putting into the playing; there is a lack of vibrancy

Over the Rainbow
Sweet toned soloist and very well phrased – what a great last note. Well done

Caravan
Stylish, great trombone, courageous soprano, good ensemble

Czardas
A nice start but E was full of wrong notes. Not a lesson in accuracy

Boris Gudenov
A firm start, good ensemble. B poor attack, fanfares are brought out well but there are a few patches of no too good intonation.

Great choice! Continuation of chromatic scale not quite balanced. A is clean but lacks energy in the ‘p’ C neat and a good bass solo leads to trio. 4 th of trio untuneful. E lacks purpose a little but ff has energy. Repeat crochets not quite united. A shade untuneful in dim before bass solo. Quite an incisive bass solo to end.

Over the Rainbow

A joyous flugel tone and music has a nice shape. I would like a little more support from low tubas though. I really enjoy the soloist’s interpretation, a wonderful lyrical style. Well done.

Caravan

Good style but bass trom could be more flatulent! At A. Great trom solo. D horns groups just a bit too laid back (in comparison to perc and bass line). F neat and compact, I perc could be much more flamboyant. Quite an effective close

Czardas
Good first stanza (accompaniments a bit tentative at times though) D not 100% accurate in solo semi quavers. G have the trombones just got in from the bar? (Along with the mutes cornets?) A nice idea but not accurate enough in musical terms
Boris Gudenov
Very effective to open B has an untidy initial production but solid band sounds follow. D has good contrasting section. I note a very assured trom section before F. G is expansive and the 4/4 is super. H is just let down a little by intonation in inner parts. 4 before J is effective. Final bars just a little untidy in production.

Thank you
