Martin started playing at the age of 9 on tenor Horn in Lostwithiel Brass '88. He played most of the instruments before coming to his senses and sticking with the trombone at the age of 14. Over the next few years Martin played in several Orchestras and Concert bands including Mount Charles. He then left the Brass Band world to join a local band " Bounce The Poodle" on bass guitar and backing vocals! Had a fantastic 4 years, lots of late nights and parties! (Rock & Roll Lifestyle!) But having enough of that he returned to the brass band scene with Bugle Band, before moving to Bodmin Band where he stayed for the last 5 years. Martin has an infinite love of the Big Band era and can boast to have played with Oasis. Martin has his own business, where he works far too hard according to him! Has an amazing daughter, Miah who is already showing off her musical talents at the age of 9 1/2. Martin joined Mt Charles in November 2006, is enjoying it very much, and is looking forward to the future.

Laura Kelly - 2nd Trombone

Laura started banding at the tender age of ten after the striking Andrew Turner played his tuba in front of her class at school. She began playing the cornet with St Austell Beginners Band but soon moved onto baritone as she found the cornet mouthpiece too small. By this time she had moved up into the Youth band, and after a short spell on baritone she went onto euphonium and played in both the Youth Band and Intermediate Band on second euph. When the Youth Band needed a trombone player she offered to 'give it a go' and found she had the exact wrist action needed for this instrument. Since then she has played with several different bands, including St Pinnock Band, Carrick Wind Orchestra, Cornwall College Big Band and Blues Band and other college/school jazz bands. She began playing with Bodmin Town Band in 2004 and when she was too old for St Austell Youth Band this became her main band. Sat between two gorgeous men, Paul Faraway and Martin Sanders, Laura began to improve her playing and enjoyed her time with the band over the following three years. In December 2006 she left Bodmin and had a short stint with Lanner & District Band over the Christmas period, but found she missed playing next to Mr Sanders too much and began to attend practices at Mount Charles Band, which she really enjoyed, and supported them at the Torquay Areas where they played fantastically. She played with them at the Stroud concert, which was a great experience and is looking forward to more of the same in the future. During the daytime Laura works as a Legal Secretary/Paralegal at Brains Solicitors and is planning on continuing her training to become a Legal Executive in Family Law.
